Police Blotter - April 16, 2010

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

On April 10, 2010 at approximately 12:05 p.m., while patrolling in the 3300 block of S. Canosa Ct. a Sheridan officer was alerted of a nearby stolen vehicle by the Lojack tracking device installed in the patrol vehicle. After tracking the GPS signal for a short time, Englewood and Sheridan officers were able to recover the vehicle in a parking lot near the area of US285 and S. Santa Fe Dr.

Assault

On April 10, 2010 at approximately 8:50 p.m., a Sheridan officer was working off duty in the 3500 block of S. Platte River Dr. The officer heard yelling in the parking lot, and upon checking, located two females that were involved in a physical altercation. After investigating, one suspect was summonsed into court charged with assault.

Motor Vehicle Theft

On April 12, 2010 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of W. Quincy Ave. on a reported motor vehicle theft. Upon arrival officers learned that the victims vehicle was taken from the parking lot overnight. The vehicle was entered into the nationwide database as stolen, and possible suspect information has been obtained. The case is under investigation at this time.

Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft

On April 14, 2010 at approximately 8:05 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. River Point Parkway on a reported attempted motor vehicle theft. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim’s vehicle was parked in a parking lot for approximately two hours. When the victim returned, she found her vehicles ignition was destroyed but the suspect(s) were unable to start the vehicle. The damage to the ignition is estimated at over one thousand dollars

Police Blotter - April 9, 2010

DUI

On April 5, 2010 at approximately 8:10 p.m., a Sheridan officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of W. Hampden Ave. and S. Zuni St. The officer stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign and upon contact observed an odor of alcohol from the driver. After conducting roadside maneuvers, the driver was arrested for DUI. The suspect was processed at the Sheridan Police Department and summonsed to court.

Domestic Violence

On April 6, 2010 at approximately 2:15 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Lowell Blvd. on a reported disturbance. Upon arrival officers learned that the male suspect arrived at his wife’s temporary residence and began pounding on the door. When the victim opened the door the suspect demanded paperwork and entered the residence taking her company cell phone. The suspect fled the scene but was later located. The suspect was transported to the Arapahoe County Jail on several domestic violence related charges.

Prescription Fraud

On April 6, 2010 at approximately 10:25 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 4000 block of S. River Point Parkway on a reported prescription fraud. When officers arrived they learned that a female suspect has been filling fraudulent prescriptions at the pharmacy. Officers learned that the same suspect has also been filling fraudulent prescription at other pharmacies. The suspect has been identified and the case will continue to be investigated by the D.E.A. and Sheridan Detectives.

Domestic Violence Kidnapping

On April 7, 2010 at approximately 7:10 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3800 block of S. Lowell Blvd. on a reported domestic violence kidnapping that occurred in the 1600 block of W. Girard Ave. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect assaulted the victim and held her against her will before she was able to get away. Officers also learned the suspect was still located at the W. Girard Ave. location, armed with a shotgun. Officers responded to the Girard address but the suspect refused to come out of the residence. Englewood SWAT responded to assist Sheridan officers, and after several hours of negotiation, the suspect was taken into custody.

Police Blotter - April 2, 2010

DUI Accident

On March 27, 2010 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the area of W/B US285 at S. Federal Blvd. on a reported single vehicle accident. When officers arrived they located a single vehicle, which crashed into the guardrail. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle, and after performing roadside maneuvers; the driver was arrested for DUI. During the crash the suspect damaged approximately fifty feet of guardrail. The suspect was booked in at the Sheridan Police Department and summonsed to court.

Residential Burglary

On March 27, 2010 at approximately 6:15 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Platte River Dr. on a reported burglary in progress. When officers arrived on scene they located the suspect who was attempting to flee. Officers learned that the suspect forced his way into the victim’s front residence door. The victim intercepted the suspect at the door and was assaulted while trying to keep the suspect out. The suspect was transported to the Arapahoe County Jail charged with 1st degree Burglary.

Residential Burglary

On April 1, 2010 at approximately 10:20 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Platte River Dr. on a reported burglary/robbery. When officers arrived the victim stated that two suspects knocked on her door advising they were maintenance. When the victim opened the door, the two suspects displayed handguns. The victim was held at gunpoint in her kitchen while the other suspect stole money, jewelry, and other items. The suspects took the victims cell phone and fled in a red truck and maroon colored Suburban. Officers have developed leads in this case, and it is under investigation.

Menacing/Assault

On April 1, 2010 at approximately 12:50 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Alcott St. on a reported disturbance. When officers arrived, two victims were located. The victims were taken to a local hospital for various injuries. Officers learned that multiple persons were involved in an argument, which became physical with weapons involved. At one point during the altercation one of the suspects displayed a handgun, and another suspect used a taser. Officers made one arrest on scene and are looking for additional suspects at this time.

Police Blotter - March 26, 2010

Burglary

On March 21, 2010 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3700 block of S. Knox Ct. on an alarm. After checking the exterior doors of the business the officer found everything secured. As the officer started to walk away from the school he noticed a suspect inside dressed in dark clothing. Shortly after officers set up a perimeter, the suspect ran out an east exit. After a brief foot pursuit, the officers caught the suspect. The suspect was booked in at the Sheridan Police Department and charges are being filed with the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Domestic Violence Assault

On March 21, 2010 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Lowell Blvd. on a reported disturbance. When officers arrived, they learned that the victim was assaulted by her husband during an argument. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving, and is at large at this time. An arrest warrant has been completed and officers continue to follow up to locate the suspect.

Burglary

On March 23, 2010 at approximately 5:50 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Knox Ct. on a reported burglary. When the officer arrived it was learned that the victim was gone from the residence during the day. When the victim returned she found multiple electronic items missing from her residence. There was no sign of any forced entry and there are no investigative leads at this time.

Domestic Violence Assault

On March 26, 2010 at approximately 2:10 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Federal Blvd. on a reported disturbance. When officers arrived on scene they located a male and female who were involved in a physical altercation. Officers learned that the male victim came to the business to bring his intoxicated wife home. When the victim attempted to bring the suspect outside, the suspect became upset and began assaulting him. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Arapahoe County Jail on domestic violence assault charges.

Police Blotter - March 19, 2010

DUI

On March 13, 2010 at approximately 4:10 a.m., A Sheridan officer observed a speeding vehicle in the 3300 block of US285. The officer stopped the vehicle and upon contact, detected the odor of alcohol from the driver. The driver was ultimately arrested for DUI and possession of Marijuana. The driver was booked in at the Sheridan Police Department and summonsed into court.

Domestic Violence Kidnapping

On March 14, 2010 at approximately 7:43 p.m., Sheridan officers responded to the 2900 block of W. Hampden Ave. on a reported disturbance. When officers arrived they were advised that a man was dragging a female out of the back of the building. Officers located the victim who advised that her boyfriend physically assaulted her, then dragged her into the parking lot. The victim further stated that her boyfriend told her she was going to die tonight and had a gun in his vehicle. The victim was able to escape and the suspect fled. With the assistance of the Englewood Police Department the suspect was later located. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Arapahoe County Jail on multiple charges. The gun was not located and the suspect advised that he disposed of it in the South Platte River.

Child Abuse

On March 18, 2010 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Sheridan Police were contacted by the Arapahoe County Human Services regarding a possible child abuse. Sheridan Police were advised that the victim lives in the 3600 block of S. Lowell Blvd. During the investigation officers learned the victim’s stepfather struck her with a belt buckle leaving bruises to her leg. The suspect was located and booked in at the Sheridan Police Department and charged with child abuse.

Vicious Animal

On March 15, 2010 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to Swedish Medical Center on a reported dog attack that occurred in the area of W. Milan Ave. and S. Knox Ct. When the officer arrived, he learned the female victim was attacked by a Pit Bull while walking home. The victim was treated for multiple injuries. Officers located and quarantined the dog until the outcome of the pending court case.

Police Blotter - March 12, 2010

Motor Vehicle Theft

On March 6, 2010 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 1800 block of W. Oxford Ave. on a reported motor vehicle theft. When the officer arrived it was learned that the victim left her keys on a table in the business and when she returned the keys were missing. The victim went to the parking lot and found her vehicle was gone. The vehicle was entered into the nationwide database as stolen, and officers are reviewing video surveillance for possible suspect information.

Motor Vehicle Theft

On March 11, 2010 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 2700 block of W. Hampden Ave. on a reported motor vehicle theft. When the officer arrived it was learned that the victim left his vehicle at the business for repair. When an employee of the business tried to find the customers vehicle in the parking lot it was gone. The officer verified with the victim that he didn’t take the vehicle back, then entered it into the nationwide database as stolen.

Robbery

On March 9, 2010 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3200 block of W. Oxford Ave. on a reported robbery. When officers arrived on scene they learned that the victim was approached by the suspect while riding his bicycle. The suspect then physically assaulted the victim and took his bicycle. The suspect has been identified in this case and arrest warrant is being obtained.

Assault

On March 12, 2010 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3300 block of S. Bryant St. on a reported assault. When the officer arrived it was learned that the victim was in the alley and was approached by several suspects. One of the suspects punched the victim in the head then fled. Officers were able to locate the suspect who was summonsed into court on an assault charge.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

On February 28, 2010 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3500 block of S. River Point Parkway on a reported suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived they located a vehicle, which was parked off the road in the grass. The vehicles driver window was broken and the ignition was damaged. Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle and learned it was stolen out of Lakewood.

Motor Vehicle Theft

On March 2, 2010 at approximately 2:45 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Lowell Blvd. on a reported motor vehicle theft. When officers arrived they learned that the victim last observed his vehicle parked in the parking lot early in the morning. When the victim returned to his vehicle later in the day it was missing. Officers entered the vehicle into the nationwide database as stolen.

Residential Burglary

On March 2, 2010 at approximately 3:40 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3100 block of S. Bryant St. on a reported residential burglary. When officers arrived they learned that the victim left their residence at approximately 12:30 p.m. When the victim returned at approximately 3:40 p.m., they found the back door kicked in and multiple electronic items were missing. Officers were able to obtain evidence on scene, and the case is under investigation.

Felony Menacing

On March 2, 2010 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the police department lobby reference a felony menacing that occurred in the 3200 block of W. Oxford Ave. When officers arrived they learned that the victim was walking home when he was confronted by the suspect who pointed a knife at him. The victim was able to avoid any assault and recognized the suspect. Officers were able to locate the suspect at a later time and booked him in at the Sheridan Police Department. Charges will be filed with the Arapahoe County District Attorneys Office.

Police Blotter - February 26, 2010

Assault

On February 20, 2010 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 1800 block of W. Oxford Ave. on a reported disturbance. When officers arrived on scene they learned that a fight began in the business during a private party. An employee attempted to break up the fight and in the process he was assaulted. Officers located several suspects in the parking lot who were ultimately summonsed into court for disorderly conduct.

Burglary

On February 23, 2010 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 4100 block of S. Federal Blvd. on a reported burglary. When officers arrived on scene they learned that the property was burglarized twice in two days. During each burglary items in the property were vandalized. Officers collected DNA evidence on scene, which will be processed for possible suspect(s) information. The case remains under investigation.

Shots Fired

On February 23, 2010 at approximately 10:55 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Clay St. on a reported shots fired. When officers arrived on scene they learned that a male suspect was firing shots from a shotgun outside of the residence. Officers evacuated several persons in the area and attempted to call the suspect out of the house. After the suspect refused to comply with orders officers made entry into the house. The suspect was located, and after a brief struggle the suspect was taken into custody. Officers located the weapon and the suspect was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail on multiple charges.

Possession of Marijuana

On February 24, 2010 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3200 block of W. Oxford Ave. reference two juveniles smoking Marijuana. Upon arrival officers contacted the two suspects who were summonsed into court for possession of Marijuana.

Police Blotter - February 19, 2010

Burglary

On February 12, 2010 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Alcott St. on a reported burglary. When officers arrived on scene they learned that the victim left his residence for a short time. When the victim returned he found items lying on the floor throughout the residence. The suspect(s) entered the residence through an unlocked bedroom window. Officers located evidentiary items left behind, and this case is currently under investigation.

Domestic Violence Assault

On February 14, 2010 at approximately 2:55 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Platte River Dr. on a reported assault. When officers arrived on scene they learned that a female victim was involved in an argument with her boyfriend. During the argument the suspect struck the victims car window with a tire iron. The suspect then physically assaulted the victim. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but turned himself in at a later time.

Robbery

On February 14, 2010 at approximately 1:15 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3300 block of W. Milan Ave. on a reported robbery. When officers arrived on scene they learned that the female victim was attending a party at a nearby residence. When the victim left the party she began to walk home. While walking in the 3300 block of W. Milan Ave., an unknown male approached her, taking her purse by force. The suspect ran on foot and has not been identified at this time.


DUI Hit and Run

On February 14, 2010 at approximately 12:15 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the area of S. Santa Fe Dr. and W. Oxford Ave. on a reported hit and run accident. While officers were investigating they learned that the suspect was involved in another accident in Englewood. The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by Englewood officers. Sheridan officers took custody of the suspect who was charged with multiple traffic charges.

Police Blotter - February 5, 2010

DUI / Obstruction

On January 30, 2010 at approximately 2:00 a.m., a Sheridan officer stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations. The driver initially failed to stop but after striking a curb the suspect vehicle was stopped. When the officer contacted the driver he detected a strong odor of alcohol. While the officer was conducting roadside maneuvers the passenger in the vehicle continuously interfered with the investigation. After several warnings the passenger was taken into custody for obstructing. The driver was also taken into custody. Both suspects were processed and issued summonses, before being transported to detox centers.

Assault

On February 2, 2010 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3200 block of W. Oxford Ave. on a reported prior assault. When officers arrived they learned that the victim was assaulted by her mother on the previous night during an argument. The victim sustained visible injuries to her face and was treated at a local hospital. The mother was located and summonsed into court on assault charges.

DUI / Traffic Accident

On February 5, 2010 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 4000 block of S. Santa Fe Dr. on a reported three-car accident. While investigating the accident officers suspected one of the drivers were intoxicated. Officers conducted roadside maneuvers and the driver was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Aggravated Robbery

On February 5, 2010 at approximately 8:00 p.m. Sheridan Police responded to the 2900 block of W. Hampden Ave. on a reported robbery. When officers arrived they learned that the female victim was standing outside of the building when an unidentified male suspect approached her. The suspect simulated a weapon demanding money from the victim. The victim cooperated and gave the suspect all of her money. The suspect then fled on foot. Officers are reviewing nearby video surveillance and the case is under investigation.

Police Blotter - January 29, 2010

Burglary

On January 26, 2010 at approximately 1:35 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3500 block of S. King St. on a reported burglary. When officers arrived on scene they learned that the victim left her residence for a short time, and when she returned she found jewelry missing from her bathroom. The case is under investigation and there are no suspects at this time.

Burglary

On January 26, 2010 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 2600 block of W. Dartmouth Ave. on a reported burglary. When officers arrived on scene they learned that when the victims returned home they observed a person inside their residence as they approached. When the victims entered their residence the suspect fled out the back door. Several items were taken from the residence and a door was damaged. This case is under investigation and there are no suspects at this time.

Criminal Mischief

On January 29, 2010 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Sheridan officers responded to the 4200 block of S. Dale Ct. on a reported criminal mischief. When officers arrived they located a vehicle that had a shattered rear window and a large rock inside. There were no other vehicles damaged in the area. This case is currently under investigation.

Domestic Violence Harassment

On January 29, 2010 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Sheridan officers responded to the 3300 block of S. Federal Blvd. on a reported physical disturbance. When officers arrived they located two suspects. Officers learned that the suspects were arguing at a nearby bus stop. The argument then escalated and both suspects began throwing each other’s personal items onto S. Federal Blvd. causing traffic to be disrupted. Both suspects were taken into custody and charged with domestic violence harassment.

Police Blotter - January 22, 2010

Disturbance

On January 16, 2010 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to a business in the 1800 block of W. Oxford Ave. on a reported large physical disturbance involving approximately twenty people. When officers arrived on scene multiple fights were in progress. Other agencies responded to assist Sheridan officers in restoring order. Several suspects were located and summonsed for various charges.

Theft / Assault

On January 18, 2010 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3600 block of S. Federal Blvd. on a reported assault. When officers responded they learned that the victim attempted to sell jewelry to the suspect. During the exchange, the suspect concealed jewelry in his pocket and attempted to leave. When the victim attempted to hold the suspect until police arrived, the suspect began punching and kicking the victim. Officers were able to locate the suspect and he was summonsed into court.

Attempted Murder

On January 19, 2010 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Sheridan officers were dispatched to the area of S. Federal Blvd. and W. Hampden Ave. on a reported vehicle hit and run. While officers were responding they learned that the suspect vehicle was reportedly ramming the victim vehicle as they continued on S. Federal Blvd. The victim drove to the police department seeking safety. After officers interviewed the victim it was learned that while the victim was driving her vehicle she observed her husbands vehicle behind her. When the victim stopped for a traffic light the suspect began ramming her vehicle. During this time the victim’s vehicle was pushed into oncoming traffic. The victim was able to flee but the suspect continued trying to ram her vehicle. The suspect fled the scene and arrest warrants are being obtained.

Burglary

On January 23, 2010 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Sheridan Police responded to the 3400 block of S. Federal Blvd. on a reported burglary in progress. When officers arrived on scene they observed evidence indicating the suspect was still inside the business. After a short time officers were able to observe the suspect through a window. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody without incident.
